Nineteen Hugo Boss stores will open in Russia this fall. According to Natalia Kermedchieva, vice-president of the Union of Shopping Centers for new brands, "The new Hugo Boss will not differ in any way.... The branding of the stores will remain the same."
We shall remind our readers that the German clothing manufacturer closed down its stores and ceased retail and onlinetrading in Russia in 2022. Two years later HugoBoss decided to sell its business to the Russian subsidiary Stockmann, having had previously received permission for such a deal from the Russian Government Commission for Control of Foreign Investment. It should be noted that the deal was approved, among other things, thanks to an agreement to retain the positions of the former Hugo Boss employees.
TKMInternationalConsulting has previousely explained that the Russian market is still able to provide prominent foreign manufacturers with substantial profits, considering domestic consumers tend to trust the long-standing reputation of foreign brands. For instance, not long ago The Coca-Cola Company and Starbucks Corporation applied for re-registration of their trademarks in Russia. Such a decision signifies the firm intention of American corporations to ensure legal protection of their intellectual property and, perhaps, to prepare for a return to the strategic market.
TKM points out, that according to the experience of foreign companies, the decision to leave the Russian market is linked with the risk of losing ground to competitors actively occupying the niches of the departed companies. Simultaneously, the problem of counterfeiting and illegal import of products belonging to foreign rightsholders is accelerating and inevitably leads to the reputation damage.
In nowadays reality TKMInternationalConsulting is actively providing beneficial comeback strategy for companies that have decided to resume their activities in Russia, as well as to protect manufacturers from the distribution of counterfeit goods under their trademark.
