The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation has drafted a bill according to which importers of products subject to mandatory labelling will be criminally liable for importing falsified goods into the country.
This initiative is a way to strengthen the legal protection of intellectual property by continuously expanding the list of goods subject to mandatory labelling in Russia is rapidly developing. The ultimate goal is comprehensive control of goods produced in the country and imported from abroad what results in minimizing the number of fake products. At the moment, alcohol, tobacco, certain types of medical goods and bio supplements, dairy products, tyres, and a number of other categories of goods are subject to labelling.
"Liability for the illegal importation of such goods into the territory of the Russian Federation is not provided for. This approach actually excludes in practice the possibility of bringing unscrupulous importers of unlabeled goods to criminal liability...", - explained the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The proposed amendments are also explained by the statistics of the Federal Customs Service. Thus, from the beginning of 2020 until April 2024, about 105M units of unlabeled goods were withdrawn from circulation.
The lawyers of TKM International Consulting regularly defend the rights holders in court, bringing infringers to justice and achieving financial compensation for the damage caused to the brand! TKM is confident that the proposed novelties will definitely benefit IP rights protection and consumer safety.
