Following the International Automotive Manufacturing Forum IMAF 2025, the news agency "Izvestia" surveyed professionals in the automotive market about the challenges their businesses face due to the spread of counterfeits.
In the article, TKM presented its own results regarding seizures conducted since 2022, totaling over half a million counterfeit auto components. The data for 2024 exceeds the figures from the beginning of the period by 37.5%. During this time, company employees blocked more than 4K listings on marketplaces, over 100K advertisements on social media, and shut down more than 20 websites distributing counterfeit spare parts, oils, automotive fluids, and other auto parts.
“For all violations, compensations and reimbursements for damages have been obtained for the rights holders in court,” noted Alexander Kovin, Business Development Director and Intellectual Property Expert at TKM International Consulting.
The scale of the counterfeit problem in the automotive market is further confirmed by a recent study conducted by the Fit Service network of auto services and Gruzdev-Analyze: 37% of auto mechanics and industry specialists have encountered falsified products in their work, mostly oils and lubricants (54%), filters (35%), spark plugs (33%), and suspension parts (19%).
Possible positive changes are promised by the introduction of a ban on the circulation of unmarked products, which will make it more difficult for fraudsters to organize the production and sale of counterfeits. However, violators will likely find new ways to circumvent these requirements, meaning that the fight against counterfeiting will remain a relevant task for intellectual property experts and law enforcement agencies.
