In 2022, the share of fake car parts on the Russian market doubled (reaching 28%). Every fourth auto part turned out to be fake, according to News.ru, citing data from the analytical agency Gruzdev Analyze.
Today, the Russian car market is filled with counterfeit auto parts and technical fluids. According to the automotive magazine Quto: "for a number of brands, the share of counterfeit goods exceeds 50% of the market."
Since March 2023, shortages, sanctions and increased demand have played in such a way that there has been an increase in prices for spare parts. However, there is nothing to replace for car owners due to lack of materials. Taking the opportunity, merchants filled the market with cheap and low-quality fakes. Most often, this is counterfeit oil, the share of which is about 31% (according to the website lenta.ru as of May 23, 2023).
For a general understanding, the volume of production of European and Japanese vehicles for 1.5 years has decreased by about 3-10 times depending on the brand, but at the same time, the number of offers from auto parts suppliers is growing (by 3 times). There is one drawback to this observation: an increase in the number of suppliers increases the risk of selling counterfeit and low-quality products. Parallel imports, for sure, allow access to the goods on the market, but due to long supply chains - quality control is unfortunately weakened.
On the other hand, vehicles of Korean, Chinese and Russian production show a worthy result, namely the expansion of the range and the growth of production. The number of suppliers has changed slightly, but with regards to supply chains, we note that they are still expanding.
The problem of combating counterfeiting is very acute, this situation was considered at a meeting of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Economic Development in March this year.
For our part, we recommend carefully checking the goods to exclude defects, since poor-quality products can lead to serious and costly damage to the car, and even worse - damage to health.
When choosing auto parts, pay attention to the price, place of purchase, availability of a quality certificate, marking, barcode, check for defects.
